GRWM: What I would have worn to The MET Gala 2025:✨“Tailored For You”✨ Superfine: Tailoring Black Style 🪡 As a historical homage I reimagined a vintage silhouette through the lens of The Gilded Age’s Peggy Scott — a Black journalist and socialite navigating society with intellect, elegance, and fierce independence 👒

My look blends the opulence of the Gilded Age and the costume design of @streamonmax @gildedagehbo done incredibly by @kasia_walicka_maimone 👗🖤 Black dandyism emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries as a radical form of self-expression. Black men used fine tailoring to reclaim dignity and challenge white supremacy, adopting European styles with defiant flair. Later icons—from Duke Ellington to @dandywellington —used fashion as a language of pride, resistance, and style sovereignty. Though often overlooked, Black dandies reshaped the sartorial narrative by turning fashion into both art and armor 🧵

My interpretation is a celebration of Black contribution to fashion history — too often erased, yet undeniably foundational! To be tailored is to be intentional. To be Superfine is to be seen and celebrated ✨🙌🏻

Being waiting since Fall to most the most magical photos @breawarren.photo @caesura.stories took during last October`s Falconry Fairytale event wearing @victorianchoice.

I studied ornithology and have always dreamed of working with birds of prey. Thanks to the wonderful team at @falconryexcursions, I was able to combine my passion for animal rescue, my love of eagles and owls, and my desire to create fantasy photos for fellow dreamers into an unforgettable event experience.

I highly recommend visiting them in Goshen, NY, supporting their rescue efforts, and joining future photoshoots that raise awareness for organizations like this - while letting us bring our fantasy personas to life.

The costume I purchased is beautiful and the quality is just as pictured. It ran a tiny bit big on me despite having followed the measurements as a guide. I used my largest proportion as my decision maker for sizing, and even was a little worried it might still be tight, but there was a bit of extra room in that area. Better too loose than too tight, but perhaps consult on sizing with the shop if you are unsure and want a perfect fit.

I ordered a dress from them that came in five separate pieces. At the high price (even on sale) I was scared that it would not fit correctly (I’m a bigger gal) or that it would be hard to piece together. On the contrary, it fit perfectly and I would buy from them again because the price is 100% worth the quality of the product. I will ABSOLUTELY be ordering from them in the future!

Interested in a dress on their website that was described as being made of cotton, I emailed asking if it is 100% cotton. I promptly received a reply saying that it is. I thanked them for their quick reply and promptly received another email saying that the pleasure is all theirs. I was so pleased with their friendliness. I ordered the dress, and was bummed when it arrived with a tag saying 100% polyester. I liked it, but I don't like wearing plastic. I emailed telling them that I would like to return it. They replied telling me that the tag was a mistake, that I am welcome to take it to a fabric shop or a seamstress to verify that, and that I can return it if I would like. They also offered me a partial refund for my trouble, should I choose to keep the dress. They also explained how the mistake occured. I greatly appreciated the transparency, as well as the value placed on customer service over profit. Mistakes happen, and they went above and beyond to clean it up in a respectable way. The dress is made of cotton. I chose to keep it.

UPDATE (4/5/22): Received a response from Victorian Choice and was fully refunded for the dress and the shipping along with a discount for future purchases. Company explained that they were shorthanded due to COVID and they apologized for their tardiness in responding. They expressed that they work hard at satisfying their customers with their purchases and that customers feel valued. Their personal response did indeed help to relieve the situation and they were able to handle it professionally. Although it took a bad review to get them to respond, I went ahead and reordered the dress in a smaller size. Hopefully, it will fit. They are beautiful dresses.Post from 4/4/22:Bought a dress that was too big. Wanted to exchange for smaller size and they said they don't do exchanges. Instead I would have to return it for a refund and order another size. Well, I returned the dress in the mail, which I had to pay for, and never got a refund. It's been 2 weeks since they've received it and I still haven't gotten a refund. I emailed them, called them, sent them messages on facebook with no response. If you're unsure of the size you should get do not order from these people. If you do, you're either stuck with a dress that's too large/small or you're basically giving them money if you try to return the item because they don't respond and they don't give refunds.

Edit:Victorian Choice fully refunded me and sent me a prepaid shipping label. I will attach our conversation that includes their explanation for the fabric quality. I do not have an explanation as to why the dress was unfinished or the color misrepresented. They respond much quicker on Etsy than email, so there are messages from both in the screen shots.This is really disappointing to have to write, but I had a really poor experience with this seller. I ordered a garment that was advertised as white and 100% cotton. The total cost was around $200 and it arrived a cheap, thin, 100% polyester, UNFINISHED, beige disappointment. The website claims that they carefully choose their fabric and design their own clothing, but the dress was made in China. So not only are they falsely advertising the fabrics used, they’re also misleading customers about the quality of the clothing that they’re selling and very likely using unethical labor. I would not have purchased from this company had they been honest about the quality, appearance, and nature of the garment and I am expected to pay return shipping. This is disappointing and unethical. If you’re looking for what their websites advertise, maybe reconsider purchasing from them.The shipping label uses a business name that is not Victorian Choice, which definitely raises a red flag. They are 100% unresponsive on email, so if you’re having an issue reach out to them via Etsy where they will copy and paste something that proves they didn’t actually read your email.

I just got my dress today and it’s in amazing quality. At first I thought that the package was a little light but I wasn’t disappointed when I put it on. It fit me perfectly and and was at a good length, not to mention it had a decent price. I would definitely shop from Victorian Choice again!

I purchased the items last minute because we run a very busy bnb. It was Victorian weekend and I realized I had forgotten to order my outfits I wrote them about this. The dresses came right on time in 2 days. I was nervous because I had never ordered from them before the items were beyond my expectations they fit perfectly because I could adjust them perfectly and the details were impeccable. I got so many compliments on the blouse especially I will order fro this company exclusively ar it fits my needs.

Where do I start! Every piece I have purchased from Victorian Choice has been top quality.The fit is perfectly adjustable with the ties in the back if the skirt or top. I have returned only one dress but not because the dress wasn’t right but because I wasn’t right for the dress. Even then they returned my payment without a hitch. I am a XXL and with all the choices in styles I was able to find a style that flattered my body type.Victorian Choice definitely does the extra things with lace, bustling, lacing and style that no other vintage dressmaker does.

I got the Victorian coat dress to wear for a western themed wedding and it’s actually nicer than I thought it would be. I probably will have it tailored as I got it a little big but all in all I’m very pleased ❤️

Trying to get to their customer service for a return is very difficult. I have emailed, left a message and texted the company.I just want someone to respond!!To me, no matter how good your product is - if your customer service stinks - it affects the overall satisfaction.

I cannot get them to contact me regarding a return. It’s very frustrating because there is only a 14 day return period and you must have a return authorization code but in order to get one I need somebody to respond to my many texts and FB messages.

Impressed by the quality of this costume. It sailed through dress rehearsals and the first of 3 weekends of performances. I went ahead and reinforced some buttons just to be safe. It is comfortable and the blouse washes well. Happy happy!

I just love these old dresses I think they are beautiful and if we had to wear them today I would wear them because I have been told I was born in the wrong history I should have been born back in the Victorian days because I love anything that is Victorian if I could buy or purchase these dresses I would I'd buy a couple of them and wear them all the time thank you for having this page I just love love these dresses

I would not recommend buying from this company. The dress that they sent me was haphazardly stitched and looked like a child had made it. The company will not respond to emails in a timely manner. I have been dealing without success with this company for several weeks, trying to get a refund for a dress that was completely defective. Just ordered my dress to do a Victorian style Beetlejuice for Halloween and I am IN LOVE with the dress! Well made, no flimsy material, and fits properly! (Jacket waistsits at the natural waist line and the skirt fits but has room to stretch a few sizes- I bought a small and the skirt can easily stretch to medium and push to large for bigger hipped women). Plus it was fast shipping and got it the same week I ordered. Will definitely be ordering from them again!Wish it was proper to wear this stuff in public again 😂

I have bought 5 skirts, one dress and two jackets all for civil war outfits. I love every one of them. All are high quality material with excellent workmanship. I did have one problem with one outfit and Victorian Choice made it right quickly. Shipping is reasonable and within a few days of purchase your outfit arrives. I recommend Victorian Choice to all my friends.

Don't be afraid to wash the gowns that are all cotton, in the washer, on gentle, cold wash, cold rinse. I did this with one of my favorites because it had seen too many Halloween events, photo shoots around horses, and lots of sweating down here in the South. Had to do something! It came out perfectly fine. I fluffed it in a slightly warm drier, the hung it up in my air conditioned bedroom to finish drying. I have a garment steamer that takes away any wrinkles or folds due to storage and such. I hate ironing, so when I found a garment steamer at the Goodwill store, I had to have it! Also...please know that the quality and fit of a good hoop skirt will make all the difference in how your new Victorian Choice gown will look on you. Again....no need to spend a fortune on one...checkout your Goodwill and Salvation Army stores, and the multitude of quality consignment stores in your area. We all have them!! I hope you will all continue to enjoy your Victorian Choice gowns!!

10/5 stars definitely. Cannot fault the high quality costumes from Victorian Choice. Just bought my third dress and for the next few days will be sitting on the mailbox like a hen sits on eggs. The colours a historically accurate from what I've researched and the outfits would be perfect for a movie. My first costume won me a price in a dress up competition in 2015. Thanks to the hard workers that make them and the workers that sell them. Great great great!

I ordered three dresses and am pleased with all of them. The fit and quality are very nice. If you take your measurements you shouldn't have any problem with the sizing. I will be purchasing more items as I need them. Well worth the money.

I love the dress I got from here several years ago. It's one of my favorite pieces. I just wish they had more plus size options (especially for those of us with larger chests). The shirt the came with my outfit was basically a joke since it was so small.
